Star Light, Star Bright…. Perseid Shower I saw last night.

Last night my husband had a few friends from ASU out to watch the Perseid Meteor shower since, you know, we can actually see stars over our place still.  (for now anyway, we’re losing them due to light pollution).

Can’t see anything closer to Phoenix so they come out to us.   I did go out for a little while, laid out on one of our camping cots and just stared up at the skies for awhile.

They counted 60+ meteors in about 1.5 hours, I only saw about 7 of them because the mosquitoes were biting me anyway, despite being doused head to toe in bug-spray.

But the ones I did get to see were quick and beautiful streaks across the sky.

I caved to the bites so I gave up and headed in but at least I did get out and see them this time!!!

Last year when I tried, Ray had me getting up at 4 in the morning and I couldn’t see anything, I’d missed the peak. So it was nice to at least see a few of these little guys go flying!

OH, and I also saw Jupiter, I could lightly see the bands across Jupiter with my husbands telescope, and the moon last night was pretty cool, it was a crescent moon and orange when I got to see it (it was red when it was coming up). Focused in on the dark to light side and the craters.  The moon is always a beautiful thing to look at through a telescope. Always. :)
