Home Life
Ahhh…. we’ve got a storm brewing here in Arizona
It’s only 66 degrees out, and I am loving it. We’ve got a storm coming in so our weather cooled down. YAY! On the down side, I need to go retrieve my horses and bring them in.
I opened up the house, I have fans pulling in fresh air, and I’m working on getting stuff done. So far inside I’ve only tackled the dishes and watering the plants. Outside I got the chickens fresh water, got Bunnicula (my bunny) fresh food and water, took my new hedge trimmer to the ornamental grass and retrieved the food buckets from the middle of the field where my horses kicked them around.
Small break (as to not overdue it, being pregnant and all), and then I need to take the leaf blower to my garden bed so I can see what still needs trimmed up, also gonna take that to the porch and get it so there’s less dust being brought into the house (the bane of Arizona).
I’m also procrastinating, because I have major tests due today and tomorrow… when I procrastinate for school, I CLEAN… cuz I can’t justify it any other way.
My sister-in-law, (Courtney) mentioned she had some cleaning to get to, and so it motivated me to start in on my own. (And I don’t even have kids yet so I have no one to blame but my husband, HA!) Gah, I can’t imagine what life is gonna be like come September when the peanut gets here.)
Peep Peep! Pew Pew!
They were peeping up a storm last night and Ray starting doing high-pitched “Pew Pew Pew” (like little laser blasters), it was surprisingly accurate, and as usual, funny.
Chickies are doing well, it’s now day 5 with us, I think.. it’s kinda been a blur. Last night, one of the chicks spent pretty much the entire evening sitting on top of the food container. They really love getting up there. I think it’s because it’s a little closer to the heat source.
Chicky Bunker is secure, Ray finished the lid for me last night, so I don’t have to worry about them jumping out. Also don’t have to worry about the cat jumping in.
They go through so much food. I fill their container up once a day. I can’t believe how much food those little guys can go through. I don’t mind, the food is cheap. 14 bucks for a 50 pound bag, I haven’t put that big of a dent in it yet. They’ll be on the medicated chick food for about 3 months.
Other than that, my family is in town. When we’re out and about shopping I’m going to try and find the leg-bands so I can get the pics up. I have 2 that I can pick out right away out of the 7. Baldy, of course, cuz she’s bald on her back, and the only chick that is mainly black but has streaks of brown in her. All the others pretty much look the same. Beak colors might be a little different but they’re so similar isn’t just impossible to tell them apart. This is very frustrating because I want to get pics up of each one for the naming of them.
To Do List….
It’s gonna be a busy day. My folks are flying into town from Iowa tonight for the week. Thankfully, they’ll be in late because I didn’t get much of anything done yesterday. Back is still out of whack so some of this will just be more my husband than me.
- Our horses have been penned up for a week. Gotta get ‘em back out to the field.
- Muck out the stalls- gonna try some of that fossil flour and see how it does drying it up.
- I need to run to the feed store and see if they have tags for the chickies.
- a lot of general cleaning to do.
- swap a fridge, which means removing cabinets. Our fridge tried to die so we ended up with a new one, but it’s too big for the space. We have to remove some cabinets to get it to fit.
- Get my husband to unload 240 pounds of horse feed and a 50 pound bag of fossil flour from the car.
- Get the lid done for the chicky bunker.
- Clean out cages (birds, chickies, bunny)
There’s more, but that’s just the thoughts on my mind right now.
We’ve got chickies, yes we do… We’ve got chickies, how about you?
I’M SO FREAKING EXCITED!!!!
1.) Overhead heating lamp- Check
2) Water feeder- Check

Okay– More on the chicks. They’re not at the house… they’re still at the store with a big old SOLD sign on them. Since she has a few things she needs to order in for me, I asked her if I paid for the chicks now if she’d hold them for me so I have time to get their transition home ready while my stuff comes in. I held one before I left too, and sat there for a moment listening to all their peeps…. awwwww.
I need to go to bed now and get some rest. Gotta build the transition home tonight when Ray gets home from work before I go to work tonight. (I’m a 3rd shifter…)
Expect a LOT of pictures over the next couple of days.
Appliance Woes…
2 months after the warranty from the last fix, the fridge took another nose-dive. Since we bought this place, pretty much everything has died or has tried to! AC in the dead of summer, twice… Our washer/dryer is on their last legs, our dishwasher decided last week that it didn’t want to hold the water in and dumped it on the kitchen floor. (Which of course, I slid and fell across… picture a clown on a banana peel. Yup, that was me!)
Stove is our fault, glass top stove and I had the crock pot up in the cabinet above it. Ray dropped it through the glass top. 3 burners dead, one last one alive, but it’s on it’s way out…
Reason we haven’t replaced everything is because we are trying to get our guest house built (which at that point we will have new appliances). Once the guest house is built, we’re moving over to that and then saving up to build the big house. (We have county regulations that won’t let us build a house while an existing one is on the property, so we have to do the guest house first so we can remove this one which is right smack in the way of where we want to build… )
So, at any rate, Mother-In-Law to the rescue. She has a spare fridge from her old place that’s not needed, so she’s bringing it on over. Thank goodness! I just have to keep an eye on the freezer in the meantime and hope for the best cuz the fridge needs to sit for 24 hours before plugging it in.
