I’m typing this blog post in notepad, ready for copy/paste when my blog goes back up. My blog, along with my sis-in-law, her blogger best friend and millions of others are without their sites right now due to a hacker attack on GoDaddy.com.
Last week we started having problems with my sis-in-laws site and another, but those were hosted on our own server. My husband tore through the server like crazy trying to figure out why were were getting load spikes with nothing pointing to what the cause was. Every adjustment we made that should have allowed the loads to go through just got hit harder. Yeah, turns out it wasn’t our server, but some jackass behind a keyboard messing with DNS for domains registered through the GD Systems. Didn’t matter that we were hosted elsewhere, it attacked the domains.
In case you’re wondering “Why the heck would someone do something like that”, here’s their reasoning. They are pointing out serious vulnerabilities and security weaknesses by blowing up something big to get attention drawn to the issue. Unfortunately, they caught GD with their pants down on this one.
As a webmaster and as a person who worked for GD for 5+ years, this crap makes me cringe. I call it web vandalism, I think it’s very wrong to do such a thing because it really hurts the little guys. People use GD because it’s affordable. They are mom-n-pop shops that cannot afford heavy infrastructure like corporations. I use it because it’s affordable and the interface makes it so that my customers can use it because it’s easy for them to use.
Great, Mr. Hacker, you got their attention. Thanks for hurting a lot of smaller folks out there today, you selfish son-of-a-bitch.
As for GD, well, here’s what I’ve got to say about that. You can bet your ass that they were moving as fast as they could to fix this issue, however I think they got their asses handed to them today.
On a little mini vaca in Tucson here. Ray is at a conference and Lilly and I are enjoying room service, naughty naughty. We went swimming last night which was nice. Tonight we are going to a party to watch the landing of Curiosity on Mars. Good thing we are going somewhere else to watch because the reception on our tv is awful.
Tomorrow we are taking Lilly to the zoo before we head
back. Really not a whole lot more to say, this is more of a resting vaca than action vaca.
Have a wonderful week Chicklets!!!
This summer I was given a Water Wrap Carrier from Courtney at CrunchyBeachMama who is doing a review and giveaway of them for WaterWrapCarriers.com!
The wrap is a lightweight wrap that is specifically designed for taking your baby into the water, snuggled close against you. Mine is a super bright lime-green color but they come in 7 different colors and if you head over to CrunchyBeachMama.com‘s site, you can enter in a contest to learn more about these wraps and maybe you’ll be the winner of one of these!! Check it out!
My chickens like to lay their eggs in the far left corner of the coop. The issue with this is that it’s *just* out of my reach, even on my tiptoes. I could go buy a cinder block from home depot which is like 10 miles away, or I could improvise. Today I discovered that a pasta spoon is perfect for reaching and grabbing those eggs.
Now I just have to go buy a replacement cuz I know my husband is going to pitch a fit.
